WALNUT PRICES 2008
Most of the walnut sold by RusticMill is priced by the piece for the table top market and speciality uses.
Small slabs run between $7.00-$12.00 a board foot. Larger slabs or planks may be priced from $12.00-$18.00 BF.
Rare highly figured slabs, burl slabs or slabs of very large size widths and lengths are priced in a higher market.
Our walnut slabs and counter top planks are cut from logs to attain the highest figured grain patterns.
Walnut cut from logs for the board market is generally priced along the Hardwood Lumber Grading Standards.
This is not the market RusticMill logs are cut for, but in the process of cutting slabs some boards are cut.
Small craft pieces require more handling time and are priced by the piece or sold by a volume amount.
Overall, walnut sold here is priced based on market values, availablity and demand determined by business sales.

Making Sense of Lumber Grades

Grades give you an indication of the number of defects in a board, not the board's total quality.
Instead of grade, focus on yield. Yield tells you the grader how much clear wood a board contains.
No. 2 Common yields 50 to 66 percent clear stock. No. 1 Common yields 66 to 83 percent clear stock.
First and Seconds combined to yield 80 to 90 percent clear stock. Clear Matched Sets are premium
quality boards cut from the same log. Note: This just a general summary of grading. Correctly grading
lumber involves other details not covered here.

WHAT IS A BF? = BOARD FOOT (144 square inches) A board size: 2" x 14" x 48" = 9.33 BF
Example: 2" Thick x 10" Width x 48" Length = 1,344 Divided by 144 = 9.33 BF
MC? = Moisture Content
