Walnut grown in Idaho, Oregon and Washington varies in color depending on climate and soil conditions.
Walnut wood found in the western states is often referred to as Western Walnut.
The tree species were brought from the Eastern States mostly by pioneers over 100 years ago.
Since then, the trees have done well. Walnut trees can be found in most cities and farms throughout the west.
We harvest trees with many colors and grain patterns. It is no different then the walnut found in the east.
What makes our lumber special is we DO NOT STEAM KILN DRY IT!
This is a technique most large lumber companies have sold the public on.
Primarily to speed up the drying processes and increase production. This includes keeping the sapwood and bleeding
the dark heart wood colors into it. Giving the wood a standard factory look and color. Idaho has a very dry
climate and we are able to air dry our wood to a 6% - 8% moisture content.
Walnut is a wood of many beautiful colors as you can see in the picture above.
Experienced wood workers demand these qualities and colors found in the wood we sell.
We keep the colors in the wood for you.

If you're purchasing wood, here are some helpful hints:
Always calculate the amount you need and add enough extra to account for natural defects in the
wood or unplanned errors. Yes, even the professionals make mistakes. We will help you in the selection
process as much as possible. Even send you pictures and descriptions. Please do not expect us to be
involved in your calculations, we do get into the design of your projects. Like most lumber companies
we provide wood in standard sizes and measurements. We will resaw or cut pieces based on orders. Large
widths (14" - 41") cut down are priced at their original board foot price. As large trees become more
rare and the demand is ever increasing you pay for the width. You may want to join boards to keep cost
down. If you're looking for extra width; for uniqueness, design and beauty, we have stock that is
limited and rare. Nothing compares to a seamless designed piece of furniture. Especially in table tops
and door fronts, where grain patterns are the most important eye catching part of the piece. Browse
through our pages, give us a call or send us an email. We want to get you the lumber you need.

If you need to get a slab flat by removing a lot of material this is a helpful hint:
A simple skillsaw jig will get the job done. It does take some fabrication, but it is very useful.
You will be using the teeth of the skillsaw as a cutter head, passing the saw from side to side.
Controlling the depth with the attached bars that lay over the table rails. Adjust the depth of
cut with the skillsaw adjust lever. ***Be sure that it remains tight*** You don't want the depth
of cut to slip down and grove the slab while you are using the saw. Be sure to go slow
and be careful, allways wear a face-sheild when using this jig. The diagram below explains the details.
